Bar Cocoa

As many Charlotte natives already know… we’ve aquired a Ritz Carlton in uptown Charlotte. Up until a few weeks ago (the Saturday before mothers day to be exact) I hadn’t had a chance to visit… but then I found out about Bar Cocoa… and knew without a doubt I had to check it out…
Looking up… fifteen floors high… very ominous…
Took this picture on my way out (you can enter directly from College Street if you want to bypass the lobby.)

After Parking the car (in the Bank of America parking deck… you can valet if you choose) we walked in through the lobby… Awe and wonder insued… (I haven’t been in a hotel this large in years… although I’ll admit the Hotels in LA and San Fransisco are alot larger)

This seating area is for those who plan to enjoy afternoon tea… and is directly adjacent to the College Street entrances and the ahhhhh…. Chocolate counter!!!
This gal loves her chocolate… Made completely out of chocolate from head to toe…
The most photographic flower on our table… I took a snap of it (and alot of other things) while we waited for our food to arrive…

Bar Cocoa is the extension of the lobby lounge… so we had a nice view of the lobby from our seating area… the team of the restuarant as I came to find out was fire and ice… There were amazing glittering ‘sculptures’ hanging from the ceiling… and a fire place lining the far wall…

The table across from us after the previous patrons had made their exit…

After considering… and reconsidering just what I was going to get.. I finally decided on the buttermilk pancakes…

Buttermilk pancakes… with a light dusting of powder sugar…

While I opted for something simple (dairy intolerance was already being put to the test with the ‘buttermilk’) My sister (armed with Lactaid) chose to go for what she really wanted… French Toast with Vanilla/Raspberry sauce…

French toast… and she ate it all…

After a throughly enjoyable meal… it was time to visit the Chocolate counter for some take home goodies… for much… much later in the day…

Decadent desserts…
Mouth watering truffles…

You get one truffle for $1.50… two for $5.50, or you can get five for $10.50… and so on… I decided to get the five… 2 to share… (Mint Chocolate, Hot Dark Chocolate) and 3 for me… (Cherry Cordial, Tahitian Dark, Raspberry) The staff will wrap them in a lovely box, finish it off with a chocolate brown bow and send you off with a smile.

BLT Steak… Desintation for my future visit!

The Chocolate Lab (part of Bar Cocoa) is a place were budding culinary artist can try their hand at creating some of the decadent desserts Bar Cocoa is famous for… For $75 dollars you get an apron, recipes, and the oppurtunity of a life time… to spend a day as a culinary arist creating 3 desserts from beginning to end…
