Anywhere. Anyplace. New York Edition (Part 2)

Well, as promised, here is Part 2 of Anywhere. Anyplace. New York Edition… Now while Part 1 dealt mostly with coffee shops, cafes, and speciality markets… this post has to do with Restaurants!

So let’s get started…

1. Gemma at Bowery Hotel – Located in the Bowery Hotel, this little Trattoria is sure to have something to please any palate. For lunch they offer a wide range of antipasti, insalate, crostini, panini and more…

What I would try?

  • Olive Tapenade and Goat Cheese
  • Pollo al Mattone (Roasted Amish organic chicken with roasted potatoes, cipollini and frisse)

2. Jeffrey’s Grocery (Restaurant and Oyster Bar) – they serve Brunch, Lunch and Dinner at this cozy little eatery. And from the name, it looks like seafood is their specialty!

What I would try?

  • Omelette (with fines herbs, goat cheese, arugula, potatoes and toast) – for lunch
  • Spring Herb Marinated Cod – for dinner

3. Locanda Verde – headed by Chef Andrew Carmellini and Pastry Chef Karen DeMasco. If you want to try and re-create some of their dishes check out Andrew’s book ‘Urban Italian‘ and Karen’s book ‘Craft of Baking.’

What I would try?

  • Almond Crusted Halibut
  • Rustic Potatoes
  • Lemon Tart
  • Apple Cider Doughnut

4. Pastis – opened by Keith McNally in 1999 in New York City’s Meatpacking District. The kitchen is helmed by executive chefs Lee Hanson & Riad Nasr.

What I would try?

  • Mixed Green Salad with Goat Cheese
  • Chicken Sandwich Libanais w/ hummus, olives, tomatoes, mint

5. Rosemary’s – is an Italian restaurant set in the heart of Greenwich Village. The restaurants owner, Carlos Suarez’s mother, and was designed to look very much like her home in Lucca, Tuscany. The herbs and produce used in the dishes created by the executive chef Wade Moises.

What I would try?

  • Eggs Benedict
  • Rosemary’s Focaccia

6. Basil Pizza – yes, I saved my number 1 place I want to visit for last. Basil’s Pizza and Wine Bar is an Italian restaurant located in Crown Heights. Another interesting fact is the restaurant keeps a strictly Kosher menu.

What I would try?

  • Frittata (w/  house smoked salmon, goat cheese, grape tomato, greens) and a Blueberry Scone – for breakfast
  • Wild Mushroom Pizza – for lunch (if I can get them to leave off the mozzarella!)
  • Sorbet Trio – for dessert
