Harvesting Basil 101

Basil is my favorite herb, and I find myself putting it in every dish I can. There are just so many things to love about it, the taste, the smell (like foodie candy) and the color. I could go on and on.

Now, when it comes to harvesting basil it’s pretty simple, but here are my quick and easy tips..

Don't chop your basil until you're ready to use it to preserve the flavor.

Interesting Facts about Basil:

  • Basil can’t be stored below 45F.
  • Unless you’re using your basil in a pesto, it’s best to rough chop it to prevent bruising.
  • When adding basil to a cooked dish, add it at the end.
  • Basil is an annual and will keep blooming throughout the summer season.
