Off to Market… Davidson Farmers Market

June 8th, 2013

Yes, I know… the 8th was ages ago… but I’ve just now had a chance to get this post put together. So, let’s get started.

We had planned to go to the Davidson Farmers Market for awhile, so when we heard about the 2nd annual ‘Farm to Fork Breakfast of Champions,’ we decided to make the trip. This event benefits the Davidson-Cornelius Child Development  Center, and allowed us to try local farm fresh breakfast dishes from ten local chefs. We tried everything from granola waffles on a bed of kale, to peaches and cream french toast. (I had to eat just the fruit, what with the whole dairy thing.)

Next, we moved on the many booths that filled the market. Almost every vegetable you could want was for sale, and looking absolutely delicious. We passed on the radishes this time, but the carrots and sweet onions were coming home with us.

We purchased some pastries from Chef Charles, we’d visited his booth before at the Matthews Farmers Market. This time I bought a peach mini pie. Yum!

No farmers market visit is complete without some sort of goat cheese, so we headed over the Cheval Farmstead Dairy tent and tried some goaty deliciousness. I purchased one of the jars that’s filled with goat cheese, pesto, garlic, peppers and other yummy items.

On the bottom left is a picture of the mural on the far wall of Summit Coffee (we are going to visit it on our next trip to Davidson) and I really think it added another bit of artsy to the whole farmers market experience.

In the first picture I’ve just picked up some lovely flowers from one of the vendors at the farmers market.  I was very tired and hungry by that point, and in need of some lunch.

The bottom left is a picture looking down main street. outside of ‘The Village Store’ and it had this whole ‘Hamptons’ feel to it. (I’ve never been to Hamptons, but someday maybe.)

So back to the whole ‘hungry’ thing… There were several options, but I’d wanted to try Toast before (they have a Rea Rd. location, which we’d passed before.) We both had the delicious California Salad (grilled chicken, goat cheese, avocado, tomatoes and mixed greens.)
