On Monday night we attended our first live cooking competition at the Salud Cooking School (Whole Foods Charlotte.)
Each contestant would be given a mystery basket to create an Appetizer, Entree and Dessert. The two chefs who taught us the previous night (Chef Whitney Davis and Chef Michael Harrington) would deliver each basket to the chef and explain the interesting techniques employed by the Chef’s as well as have an occasional guess on what they were preparing.
Course #1: Appetizer
- Pork Side Meat
- Sweet BBQ Sauce
Once each course was prepared, Guest Chef Phillip gave them a taste and gave his thoughts on each dish. (Then everyone else got to test their own and give a rating 1-5 in the following categories…)
Course #2: Entree
- Collard Greens
- Pepper Jelly
For the entree the Chef’s both went with versions of a Southern favorite… Shrimp & Grits.
Time for the final round…
Course #3: Dessert
- Bourbon Ice Cream
- Strawberry Basil Jelly
… and the winner for the night…
