The Wild Olive | John’s Island, SC

For dinner on the first day of our vacation, we had some celebrating to do. It was mum’s birthday, and Italian was what we were after. So, we drove from Kiawah Island to John’s Island (about 20 minutes or so away) to our favorite foodie discovery from our last trip to the Charleston area.

As expected, the parking lot was already full of people but we were lucky enough to get a table ahead of our reservations.

My dish was a combination of things, since I needed something dairy free. The gnocchi was delicious, but the marinara was a bit too spicy for me.

It was Chicken Parmesan for the birthday girl… and it was so much food that she couldn’t eat it all.

Ashley Jane (my sister) ordered the pasta special which was fusilli with snap peas, grilled chicken, artichoke hearts and scallions. Her favorite part of the dish was the snap peas, but she wasn’t ‘brave’ enough to try the artichoke hearts and I can’t blame her. They aren’t for everyone!

My mum and sister wrapped up the birthday meal with this Chocolate Cake with layers of Italian Buttercream. It smelled delicious!
